Site Content Overview
Site content is displayed in various ways.
Repeated content such as the heading, sidebar (if any) and footer are controlled separately from the individual page content.
Individual page content is added as Pages.
Posts also display as individual pages but, unlike Pages can also appear as listings, which get updated automatically when a new Post is published.
Custom Posts, if set up, are used to add specific types of content and will often have different input fields from standard Posts.
Standard web pages are added using Pages, and can be edited at Admin > Pages.
The front page is a special page with most of the content being added automatically, as set up in the Home Page template.
At the moment, the site uses Posts only for the Blog, and new blog posts can be added at Admin > Blog > Add New.
These are very occassional and previously published elsewhere. This can mean it’s not always easy to just lift the text as it may be a pdf or have lots of html markup (Ecologist is an example that needs unwanted formating stripped out). There’s no set way to do this it’s a case of whatever works best.
You can try copy and pasting the text direct from your browser into the admin content editor, or you can do ‘view source’ in your browser and copy the html and paste it into the Content editor in text view – or you can try going via Notepad – paste into Notepad then copy and paste from there. You will have to redo things like italics and links with some of these methods.

There are two custom post types set up for this site. News is used to add the news items which are listed on the front page and In the news.
You’ll receive a link from Paul, and possibly some info on the associated text, eg, “with comment from Dr Paul Dorfman”.
These are usually news items, but can also be published articles in professional journals, new books, event or other items that sometimes need a bit of crowbarring to fit the format.
Headline – usually just the article headline, but might need edited back if overly long
Summary – a short summary of the article – often just lifted from the article intro
Author – generally only use this if the article author is one of the NCG group
Web address – the full link to the article
Publication – the name of the newspaper or other source
Publication Date – date of publication on the article
Show date / month / none – sometimes there is no appropriate date (eg, events) and sometimes just the month (eg, periodicals)
A number of news outlet logos / mastheads are in the Media Library and can be selected using Featured Image, as can generic headings like Books and Events. If no featured image is selected, a default newspaper image is used. The size for these is 400 x 100 pixels.
People is used to list the NCG members listed on the about page.
The NCG members are listed under People in the admin. The fields should be fairly obvious – Title gets listed before the name and Post Nomials any letters after their name.
The Position field is a wysiwyg area so you need to take care when pasting in text not to bring in unwanted markup – use the <> button to see the html source text. In wysiwyg view you want shift return between lines not paragraph breaks.
Templates provide various functions in controlling the output of Pages. They can change the look of the page, load an alternate sidebar, add additional content to the page or even add extra input fields to the Add New / Edit screen.

Sidebars and Widgets
Your site is currently set up with just one sidebar, Primary Sidebar. This is Widget enabled, which means that various content elements can easily be added to this area. For editing sidebars, go to Admin > Appearance > Widgets.
These include two custom widgets LGD Latest Blog and LGD Latest News, which will list the most recent Blog, and the 3 most recent News, respectively.
Front Page Slider
Images can be added or removed and captions edited at Admin > Soliloquy. Click Edit when moused over Home Page Slider. Click on X at any image to delete or i to edit the caption. Click on Select Images to add an image from the Media Library of already uploaded images or to upload from your computer. Slider images should be a minimum size of 1200 x 400 pixels.
Updating the menu and sub-menus
The site has a customised menu bar (Primary Menu) which will require manual updating if you wish new items added or existing ones removed at Admin > Appearance > Menus.
Menu Items can be many different things, anything from an individual Page to an automatic Post category listing.
The menu system is not designed for any sub-menu items.

The site uses a bespoke theme developed by Lynx Graphic Design to run on the Genesis Framework for WordPress.
The theme pages are html5 with css3 style and the site has been tested for display and function on all major current browsers, and in addition has been tested on Internet Explorer down to version 8.

|Responsive WordPress Slider – Soliloquy Lite||adds one or more ‘sliders’ to display multiple images, optionally with captions|
|Super Socializer||can be used to add social sharing buttons on pages and posts and other social network integration|
|Wordfence Security||provides many measures and monitoring to enhance the security of your site, including daily scans and emailed notifications (to Lynx Graphic Design) of any problems. This includes settings to protect against brute force login attacks; we have not found any conflicts between this and the Limit Login Attempts plugin, but if there are problems with legitimate logins, the settings for this plugin should be checked as well as those for Limit Login Attempts|
|WPS Hide Login||changes the site login page for additional security|
|YouTube widget responsive||allows you to add a YouTube video to a Widget area on your site – the video will resize to fit narrower columns/screen sizes|
